Kentucky Association of Health Plans Announces Katherine Kington North as Director of External Affairs

Lexington, Ky. (April 11, 2022) –Kentucky Association of Health Plans (KAHP), the trade association representing all commercial insurers and Medicaid managed care organizations in the Commonwealth, today announced the hiring of Katherine Kington North as Director of External Affairs.

North most recently served as Communications Director for the Kentucky State Treasury. Prior to her role at the Treasury, North led communications for the Kentucky Personnel Cabinet, overseeing communications and outreach for the Kentucky Employees’ Health Plan. Before serving in government, She worked at RunSwitch Public Relations where she served as a spokesperson for the 144th Oaks and Kentucky Derby. She is a former anchor and reporter of WAVE 3-TV in Louisville. A Louisville native, North is a graduate of Auburn University.

“The KAHP board has made a commitment to grow our organization, and Katherine’s excellent experience in both the public and private sector makes her the right person at the right time,” said Tom Stephens Executive Director of KAHP. “From our COVID vaccination events, contests, and grant programming to our West Kentucky tornado recovery efforts, we are deepening industry collaboration and advocacy. Katherine has the skills and background to take our efforts to the next level by cultivating new partners, broadening our membership, and raising awareness of our impact.  We are fortunate to have her as part of the team,” continued Stephens.

KAHP plans to soon open new membership opportunities to companies that provide products or services to health plans or maintain an interest in the health insurance or Medicaid managed care industry as well as to individuals and consulting firms in the space.

“I look forward to expanding KAHP’s outreach efforts and working with our members to ensure Kentuckians have superior access to high-quality healthcare, particularly at a time when affordability and quality coverage are so vital to a healthy Commonwealth,” said North.
