Release: Kentucky Health Plans Providing Support to Members in Wake of Devastating Tornadoes
Trade association donates $100K to Team Western KY Tornado Relief Fund as Medicaid Managed Care Organizations fill critical needs in a state of emergency
Lexington, Ky. (Dec. 14, 2021) –Kentucky Association of Health Plans (KAHP), the trade association representing all carriers offering health coverage in Kentucky, today announced a donation of $100,000 to the Commonwealth’s Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund to assist fellow Kentuckians reeling from the weekend’s deadly tornadoes.
“It’s heartbreaking to see communities suffering,” said Tom Stephens, Executive Director of the Kentucky Association of Health Plans. “Health plans are committed to playing a key role in recovery efforts and making sure Kentuckians in towns like Mayfield, Princeton, Campbellsville, Bowling Green, and so many others are healthy and have all the resources they need to rebuild.”
In addition to association efforts, KAHP member organizations have donated close to $1.5M in monetary and in-kind contributions.
Throughout the state of emergency, health plans are closely collaborating with the Kentucky Cabinet for Health & Family Services as well as the Department for Medicaid Services to ensure strong support for health plan members and healthcare providers through various actions including:
• Allowing for emergency medication refills;
• Providing 24x7 nurse advice lines and telehealth providers;
• Offering additional mental health services;
• Outreaching to members and providers by risk tier to ensure access to care;
• Deploying of clinical staff to high need areas;
• Donating and delivering water to impacted areas;
• Donating and delivering PPE;
• Donating and delivering diapers, hygienic products and baby formula;
• Coordinating associate bloodbanks and other volunteer efforts;
